Balkan Booze started as Tamara's Trade — a family business with a straightforward idea: if you want authentic Balkan food and drink in Australia, you have to go and get it yourself.
Back in 2012, finding the real thing meant knowing the right people or waiting for family to bring something back in their luggage. The mainstream bottle shops had nothing. So we started importing directly — the exact brands people grew up with, not substitutes.
Over 14 years later, not much has changed about how we operate. We're still family owned, still importing direct from producers across Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and beyond, still determined to stock the genuine article. What's changed is the range: we now carry over 290 products — rakija, beer, wine, spirits, and food — making this Australia's largest collection of Balkan rakija.
We're based in Dandenong, Victoria. We supply direct to customers online and to local retailers in our area. Because there's no distributor in the middle, our prices stay honest and our products stay fresh.
